Great if you used to Youth Hostel standards. Not so great if you expect a nice hotel. Rooms are tired, floor sagging in, dirty paintwork, old plumbing, furniture like my great grand mother's. We know ours wasn't teh only poor room from the conversations at breakfast. Breakfast bar was not re-stocked even though more than half the guests. We had yet to come downstairs. Be early if you wnat pastries. But the cooked breakfast was excellent. Only one nice staff member. The rest need to learn to smile.
location bar bar meals
The hotel has great character and a great deal of history linked to it. It is very well placed for touring the Cotswolds and our rooms in the Coach House were a very pleasant surprise. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. We only had time for a bar meal and breakfast, both of which were excellent. I would say the experience of staying at the Crown and Cushion was very good the price was very reasonable and I and my friends who accompanied me would definitely return and would recomment it to others.
My family felt the hotel provided comfort, relaxation & a feeling of care & attention was being given to guests. The staff look great in their uniforms with the long white aprons, alittle like upstairs down stairs! The hotel has an olde worlde charm & a lovely cobled street area running through it, with decked seating areas with lovely vines & flowers in pots etc where the old coaches would have run through it in the olden days! The food was great, lots of choice at breakfast, good quality bacon & eggs cooked to perfection. The hotel was a good temperature all the time & endless hot water & all towels provided (even for swimming, ask at reception) We loved it, hope this helps.
We felt the swimming pool needs some attention, maybe jet wash the flooring around the pool, the changing rooms need decorating & doors in that area didn't seems to work very well. Also the pool may need more chlorine in as you can normally smell it but I could not? This is no complaint about the hotel, but when I booked it stated that it had a sauna & a pool table & it has not. But these two things would be a great to add if possible. The other thing would be the gym needs updating, with less machines in but better condition & the flooring in part of the gym needs work.
fawlty towers lives!!! one liners best discribe our stay. approx values; 143 paces to our room 4/5 sets of stairs--43 steps 4 doors 6 changes of direction no lighting in corridor when we got to our room no lighting in corridor next morning-pitch black, had to use mobile phone light to guide guests to stairs. heating came on as we left room a.m and was off when we returned late p.m single bar of complementary soap in small wooden tray on floor of bathroom--wasn,t replaced or toilet rolls 1/2 size basin had to bend knees to rinse face sqeakiest bed ever al a carte menu shown in reception--told restaurant was closed!! sat night and sunday night==local indian and thai got our money will never stay here again
The hotel staff were lovely and very accommodating. No problems with car parking, and a great full English to start the new day.
We booked 2x 4 poster bed rooms expecting them to be within the style of the hotel, but they were modern replicators without the uniqueness expected. The heating was on a timer therefore when we woke up in the morning it was freezing.
Very atmospheric place, a comination of old and newer parts great resturant and bar, staff very friendly and helpful. Ideal location for sightseeing around the cotswolds area
Staff helpful, food good rooms comfortable
Noise from a fan during the night Room 25
Good location, right on the main street in Chipping Norton. Quiet and well appointed. Excellent traditional breakfast - buffet style. Good sized room with plenty of storage.
Good location, had car park, also had swim pool, gym and squash court which we were not aware of when made booking.
Is a little bit dated and some of bar furniture need refurbishment or replacing. Our room was clean and comfortable, however did think the mattress could do with replacing and was quite well used and saggy
Took ages to get the radiator working, room remained cold even after. The website stated a bath which we did not have.
Good parking, very warm and friendly staff
It was nice and clean and the breakfast was very good
The heating in room 36 went off during the evening and we had to ask for a portable heater but we had to ask twice for it to be sorted for us. The young receptionist came and bled the rads which then worked and the portable heater soon warmed the room again, in all this took over an hour and we were very cold........
The staff were friendly and the location and character of the building were good. Beds were very comfortable.
Our room smelt of mildew - in fact we could see mould around two of the windows. The "leisure centre" had a reasonable pool but dire changing/shower facilities. Our room was left v cold on the Saturday evening - but the heating was put on when I asked. Price was high.
Everything! Great Hotel, friendly staff, very friendly locals who use this inn. Food was good and reasonable, free breakfast was excellent. Bed comfortable, water hot, hotel very clean. Wonderfully placed for Oxford and Cotswolds. Very individual, not bland and soulless, top marks for a good stay.
